Designed by Andrew Metrick, Elte’s furniture is grounded in a commitment to craftsmanship and material integrity. Among the materials used throughout the collection, stone holds a special place – valued for its permanence, character, and sculptural beauty.

We explore the journey of stone at Elte, from the world’s most storied quarries to the refined finishing techniques and considered design details that define each piece.

Storied Stone

Formed over thousands of years through heat and pressure, stone is steeped in history. Some of the earliest quarries – such as those in Carrara, Italy, once frequented by Michelangelo and other renowned sculptors – are still in use today.

Active since ancient Roman times, the marble quarries of Carrara, Italy remain one of the world’s most renowned sources of natural stone.

Hand Selection

Our journey begins with the hand-selection of every stone slab. From sourcing Calacatta Viola high in the mountains of northern Italy to selecting Travertine near the mineral pools of Denizli, Turkey, we believe that quality begins at the source.

All of Elte’s stone pieces are available to order in nine options – Calacatta Viola, Pietra Grey, White Carrera, Turkish Travertine, White Arabescato, Nero Marquina, Dark Emperador, Verde Alpi and Silver Travertine.

Precision Cutting

Every piece is handcrafted using precision-cut stone veneers that allow us to control both the beauty and quality of each piece, while also helping conserve marble as a finite natural material.

White veining cuts across a deep grey background, giving Pietra Grey stone its graphic character.

Hand Polishing

Every piece is finished through a five-step hand polishing process, which allows us to bring out the lustre, veining and tones of marble and Travertine stones.
