The Lila Valadan
Rug Collection
Rugs woven with soul, heritage and purpose
Acclaimed rug artist, AD100 Germany honouree, and nine-time Carpet Design Award winner, Lila Valadan creates rugs that celebrate Persian tradition, artistry, and heritage.
Produced in limited quantities and guided by emotion, her collections reflect the soul of craftsmanship. Deeply connected to the land and its natural rhythms, Lila’s work embodies the timeless bond between maker and material. From the seasonal gathering of wool to the open-air weaving practices that prioritize patience and intention, each piece tells a story of nature, tradition, and the artistry of the master artisans who bring her vision to life.
Each of Lila’s rugs is a masterwork, some taking over three years to complete and containing up to five million hand-tied knots.
Her process follows the natural rhythms of life, with weavers working in the open air, sipping tea and drawing inspiration from the world around them. For Lila, time is not a constraint, but a space for creativity and care. She remains committed to the art of hand-weaving, believing that the hands, still connected to the heart, are essential to the process.
With a deep respect for natural rhythms, the production of the rugs follows the seasons, with only two cycles a year timed to when the sheep are sheared – ensuring the process remains in harmony with the land and its resources.
Natural dyes reflect the quiet beauty of the earth. Chosen for their rich, evolving tones, they bring depth and authenticity to each piece. Their low-impact process speaks to a more mindful approach where colour is both craft and conscience.
